Choose a Sunday before your state's registration deadline. For the November 3, 2026 election, many states close registration around October 5, so September 27 or October 4 are the best dates. Some states allow registration later or even on Election Day. Check your state's deadline →
Already past your deadline? Hold a Voter Sunday anyway and focus on making a voting plan: early voting dates, polling places, and rides.
The 60-second announcement
Read this from the pulpit or during announcements. It's nonpartisan by design. It doesn't mention any candidate, party, or issue position.
Church family, Scripture calls us to “seek the welfare of the city” where God has placed us, and to pray for those in authority. In our country, one way we do that is by voting.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd, and the deadline to register in our state is coming up soon. After the service, stop by the Voter Sunday table in the foyer. In about two minutes we'll help you check that you're registered at your current address, and help you register if you're not.
If you've moved recently, changed your name, or just turned 18, please come by. And if you need a ride to vote, let us know. We'd love to help.
We won't tell you how to vote. We just want every member of this church to show up.
Sign-up table checklist
Two weeks before
- Get your pastor's OK and pick the Sunday.
- Recruit 2–4 volunteers. Tech-comfortable people who can help others use their phones are ideal.
- Read what churches can and can't do and share it with volunteers.
- Find your state's rules on pewtopoll.org. Some states require training or restrict who can collect paper registration forms. When in doubt, help people register themselves online.
- Put a line about Voter Sunday in the church newsletter or email.
The week of
- Print the handout, about one for every two people who attend.
- Reserve a table in a high-traffic spot (foyer, coffee area).
- Make a simple sign: “Registered to vote? Check in 2 minutes.”
- Charge a tablet or two, and have Wi-Fi details handy.
- Share the announcement above with whoever does announcements.
On Sunday
- Help people visit pewtopoll.org, pick their state, and check or complete their registration on their own phone.
- Invite everyone to take the Faithful Voter Pledge and sign up for deadline reminders.
- Keep a sign-up sheet for people who need a ride to the polls.
- Stay nonpartisan. No candidate literature, buttons, or yard signs at the table, and help anyone who asks, however they plan to vote.
Afterward
- Thank your volunteers from the pulpit.
- The Sunday before Election Day, remind the congregation to vote and pray.
